Historical product research to establish presence of asbestos. Located, procured and coordinated testing of product samples from the 1920’s through 1980’s. Supported counsel in development of an alternative causation theory involving the products, leading to dismissal of case.

Multiple insurance archaeology projects focused on locating policy information and developing policy evidence sufficient to prove coverage. Comprehensive searches cover corporate records, third party records, witness interviews, and government document reviews.

Insurance claim allocation modeling. Develop and maintain spreadsheet models to allocate legacy liability claims to historic insurance program, 1940s to present. Modeled issues include triggering of duty to defend, theories of exposure, and implications of cost sharing agreements among parties.

Fairness / appropriateness opinion for trustee of an asbestos-claims paying trust. Evaluated proposed insurance program to be purchased by the trust on behalf of future asbestos claimants. Prepared financial models, ran Mote Carlo simulations and delivered memorandum to trustee.

Subject matter experts in a complex fraud case. Retained by County District Attorney to support grand jury inquiry into financial and operating practices of a city government. Examined procurement of insurance and operation of defined benefit pension funds for evidence of kickbacks and bid rigging.

Consultants on a commercial fraud case. Engaged by corporate counsel and local litigation counsel of a fuel distributor to investigate kickbacks, fraudulent billing, and employee theft. Developed case approach and managed certified fraud examiners, field investigators, and certified public accountants to build the case.
